Hello parents

The childrenīs training for kids from 8 to 13 years takes always place on Tuesdays and on Fridays between 17.30 h and 19.00 h except school holidays.
Following we would like to introduce the childrenīs training in the Aikido association Forchheim e.V.

The lessons in the childrenīs training

In the childrenīs training the techniques and principles of Aikido are taught in a playful form according to the age. Violence free conflict solutions are in the foreground. The kids learn the use of the techniques without hurting others. Regardful behavior is supported that way while the result is a positive mental attitude.

The joy with natural movement as well as the teaching of the coordination, the posture and the softness are essential parts of the lesson. Exercises of concentration and conditional tests improve both mental as well as physical skills. The partner orientated training and the work within a group supports a good behavior, politeness, respect, the appreciation of each other and the care for a pronounced social competence.

The playful handling with the Aikido typical arms, Jo and Bokken supports prudent action, mindfulness and consciousness for responsibility.

Pedagogical criteria for teaching and tests in the childrenīs training

The kids are brought up to the movements and the techniques of Aikido step by step and in a playful form. Thereby the correct behaviour (Rei) and the collaboration with partner in coeducative lessons play an important educational role. On the one hand the natural drive for movement of kids is supported by games and by exercises of concentration. On the other hand mindfulness as well as relaxation/meditation and calmness are conveyed that way. They learn how to observe with concentration (listening/looking) and - at the right time – to sit in silence. Through breathing, feeling and excercises of mindfulness they extend their inner and outer perception and by means of excercises with partner and by training in the group they learn to adapt themselves and to take care of others.

The tests in the Kyu-field (from 10th to 6th Kyu) accompany this development. They reward the kids for their regular training and for their progress and of course introduce to the basics of Aikido (basic movements and techniques) that way. Furthermore they support the careful handling with oneself and with others, convey haptical skills (to do and to execute it oneself) and improve their coordinative skills (collaboration between mind and body).

The test for the 6th Kyu enables to a further development in order to achieve a later access to the section for the youth (for the test for the 5th Kyu). Kids who are specially talented and diligent can take the test for the 5th Kyu already prior to changing to the section for the youth.

FAQ for children training

At what age can children start with Aikido?

Children from the age of 8 are very welcome.

Do I have to register my child with the children's trainer beforehand?

No, you can simply come to the dojo (training centre) 10 minutes before the start of training. The trial training is free of charge.

How should my child be dressed?

A T-shirt and sports trousers are sufficient. All children train barefoot on the mat; outside the mat they should wear slippers.

Are there parties or excursions at the club?

Yes, there is a summer party and a Christmas party. We also perform at town festivals or at the district youth day. Some children take part in training courses in Bavaria, which last 2 to 3 days, or we spend a weekend in the dojo. They play and train there, watch samurai films and even spend a night sleeping on the mat. In any case, there is a varied programme with lots of fun!
